At Newport Beach Dental Studio, technology is not added simply because it is new. We invest in digital tools when they allow us to diagnose more clearly, plan treatment more precisely, communicate better with our patients, or deliver dentistry more efficiently.
From AI-assisted diagnostics and TRIOS 6 digital scanning to same-day milling, facially driven smile design, advanced 3D imaging, and restorative 3D printing, much of our workflow is digital from beginning to end.
Artificial Intelligence-Assisted Dentistry
Artificial intelligence can provide an additional layer of information when we evaluate dental radiographs and treatment records. AI-assisted software can help highlight areas that may warrant closer examination, including possible decay, changes in bone levels, and calculus deposits.
AI-based tools can also support portions of digital treatment planning, restorative design, implant planning, orthodontic workflows, and smile design. These technologies do not replace the dentist’s clinical judgment; they provide additional information that can help us evaluate each case more thoroughly.
TRIOS 6 Intraoral Dental Scanning
Our TRIOS 6 intraoral scanner captures detailed three-dimensional information about your teeth and bite without relying on traditional impression material for many of our procedures.
Digital scans can be used for crowns, bridges, clear aligners, oral appliances, implant restorations, smile designs, and many other treatments. Because the information is digital, it can be reviewed immediately and securely shared with specialized dental laboratories and technicians when appropriate.
Advanced Dental 3D Printing
Our in-office 3D-printing systems allow us to fabricate a growing range of highly precise dental restorations, appliances, guides, and models directly from digital designs.
Depending on the clinical application, we can use specialized dental materials to fabricate nightguards, surgical guides, diagnostic models, provisional restorations, and ultra-thin 3D-printed veneers.
Because scanning, designing, and fabrication can all take place digitally, we have greater control over the workflow from the initial scan through the final restoration.
SprintRay Midas
Our restorative printing workflow includes the SprintRay Midas, which uses patented Digital Press Stereolithography technology.
Instead of relying on a conventional open resin vat and build platform, the Midas system uses specialized material capsules and a press-and-cure workflow. This allows the system to process highly filled, highly viscous restorative materials designed specifically for dental applications.
For appropriate cases, this technology allows us to combine digital smile design with in-office restorative fabrication, including highly conservative 3D-printed veneer workflows.
In-Office Dental Milling
Digital scanning and in-office milling allow us to fabricate certain dental restorations directly within our office. In appropriate cases, this can allow a crown or other restoration to be designed, fabricated, and delivered without waiting for a conventional outside laboratory turnaround.
The restoration begins with a digital scan of the prepared tooth. The design can then be reviewed digitally before the restoration is milled from an appropriate dental material and evaluated clinically for fit, contours, contacts, bite, and esthetics.
Professional Dental Photography
A smile should be designed around more than the teeth alone. At Newport Beach Dental Studio, professional dental photography is an important part of our cosmetic and restorative planning process.
We evaluate the relationship between the teeth, lips, gum contours, facial midline, smile curve, tooth display, facial proportions, and other features that influence how a smile appears within the face.
Photographs also provide an objective way to evaluate fine details that may be difficult to appreciate during a brief clinical examination.
Digital Smile Design
For smile makeovers, we combine high-resolution photography with digital scans to plan the proposed changes before the final restorations are created.
Digital smile design allows us to evaluate tooth length, width, proportions, symmetry, smile curve, midline, contours, and the relationship between the teeth and face. Proposed changes can then be refined before treatment progresses to the final restorative stage.
There is no one-size-fits-all smile. Our objective is to create a design that looks natural within your face rather than selecting the same tooth shape or proportions for every patient.
Intraoral Cameras
Intraoral cameras allow us to capture detailed photographs of individual teeth and areas of the mouth that are difficult to view with a mirror alone.
These images can help document concerns such as cracks, worn teeth, stains, existing restorations, broken fillings, areas of decay, and changes in the gums or soft tissues.
As part of our comprehensive new-patient evaluation, we routinely use photography to document the condition of the mouth and review relevant findings together with the patient.
Cone Beam CT Imaging
Our KaVo cone beam CT system can create three-dimensional images that provide information beyond what is available from conventional two-dimensional dental X-rays.
When clinically appropriate, CBCT imaging can be valuable for evaluating bone anatomy, implant sites, impacted teeth, complex infections, sinus anatomy, root morphology, and other structures important to surgical and restorative treatment planning.
In selected situations, three-dimensional imaging can also provide additional information when evaluating suspected fractures or complex endodontic concerns that may not be apparent on conventional imaging alone.
Large 4K Patient Displays
High-resolution displays throughout our office allow us to review photographs, digital scans, X-rays, 3D images, and treatment plans directly with our patients.
Instead of trying to explain a problem using only a small dental mirror, we can enlarge the relevant images and show you exactly what we are evaluating. This makes discussions about cavities, fractures, worn teeth, bone loss, existing restorations, and cosmetic treatment much easier to understand.
