Meet Dr. Tai Ha, DDS
Dr. Tai Ha is a Newport Beach dentist focused on cosmetic, biomimetic, restorative, and digital dentistry with an emphasis on preserving natural tooth structure whenever possible.
From Technology Student to Digital Dentist
Originally from South Jersey, Dr. Ha earned his bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and then completed a master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.
He later moved to Southern California to attend the USC Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.
Technology has been part of his approach to dentistry since dental school. While at USC, Dr. Ha founded the Dental Technologies Club to introduce fellow students to emerging technologies and explore how digital tools could improve diagnosis, treatment planning, and clinical care.
That same interest eventually became a defining part of Newport Beach Dental Studio.
A Dental Office Built Around Digital Dentistry
Dr. Ha incorporates digital scanning, facial and dental photography, three-dimensional imaging, digital smile design, CAD/CAM milling, 3D printing, laser dentistry, and other modern technologies into clinical care.
Technology is not used simply because it is new. The goal is to use it when it can improve communication, planning, precision, efficiency, or the patient experience.
Education
Advanced Training & Continuing Education
Dentistry continues to evolve, particularly in adhesive materials, ceramics, digital workflows, implant dentistry, esthetics, and minimally invasive treatment.
Dr. Ha continues to pursue advanced education beyond dental school and has trained with internationally recognized clinicians and educators in restorative and cosmetic dentistry.
Training at the Kois Center
Dr. Ha has pursued advanced education with Dr. John Kois, whose curriculum emphasizes systematic diagnosis, risk assessment, occlusion, and comprehensive restorative treatment planning.
The underlying idea is simple: understand the biological, structural, functional, and esthetic risks before beginning treatment rather than treating each tooth in isolation.
Areas of Clinical Focus
“My goal is not to perform the most dentistry possible. It is to understand the problem, preserve what is healthy, and choose the amount of treatment that makes sense for that patient.”

Why Continuing Education Matters
The materials, techniques, and technology used in dentistry today are significantly different from those used even a decade ago.
Dr. Ha completes more than 100 hours of continuing education each year, with particular attention to biomimetic dentistry, adhesive restorative techniques, digital smile design, 3D printing, implant planning, digital workflows, photography, and cosmetic dentistry.
Continuing education allows him to evaluate new techniques critically and incorporate them when they offer a meaningful advantage for patients.
Conservative Dentistry First
Technology can make dentistry more sophisticated, but sophisticated treatment does not always mean more treatment.
Dr. Ha’s approach is to preserve healthy enamel and tooth structure whenever practical, use adhesive and biomimetic principles when appropriate, and reserve more extensive restorative treatment for situations in which it is actually necessary.
Humanitarian Dentistry
Volunteer dentistry has also been an important part of Dr. Ha’s career.
He has participated in humanitarian dental trips with colleagues to communities in countries including Kenya, Jamaica, and the Philippines, providing dental treatment to patients with limited access to care.
Those experiences reinforced a principle that remains important in his practice today: good dentistry involves more than completing a procedure. Patients should feel respected, informed, and cared for throughout the process.

Outside the Dental Office
Dentistry and technology occupy a large part of Dr. Ha’s life, but not all of it.
What Patients Notice
“My friend referred me to Newport Beach Dental Studio and was raving about them. Dr. Ha actually read the forms before our visits, asked about them, took time to explain things, and the whole team really cared about our comfort.”
