Cosmetic dentistry is about much more than simply making teeth whiter. At Newport Beach Dental Studio, we evaluate the relationship between the teeth, lips, gums and face to create a smile that looks balanced and appropriate for the individual patient.
Details such as tooth length, width-to-height proportions, incisal edge position, smile arc, facial line angles, surface texture, translucency, gingival architecture and the amount of tooth displayed during a natural smile can all influence the final result.
These 50/50 comparisons make many of those changes easier to see because the original and final result are presented within the same photograph.
Natural-Looking Cosmetic Dentistry
The goal of cosmetic dentistry should not be to create oversized, excessively white or identical teeth. A well-designed smile should still look believable.
Depending on the patient, treatment may involve porcelain veneers, layered ceramic veneers, no-prep veneers, crowns, cosmetic bonding, teeth whitening, gum contouring or a carefully planned combination of procedures.

When viewing the cases above, look beyond the change in tooth color. Compare the position and length of the incisal edges, the curvature of the smile, tooth proportions, symmetry between the left and right sides, the spaces between the teeth and how the final restorations interact with the lips.
Small changes in these areas can dramatically affect whether a smile appears natural, youthful and harmonious.
